Balkarlar Türk soylu bir toplumdur. Kabardino-Balkarya bir Turani devlettir. Balkarların dilleri Türk lehçelerinden Kıpçak koluna bağlı bir dildir. Bu yüzden Balkarya'nın Kafkaslardan sayılması yanıltıcı duruyor.
